Geography
Location:
Center of South America
Area:
1.098.581 Km2 of land and 14.190 Km2 of water
Borders:
Total: 6.743 Km. Bolivia borders with the following countries: Argentina 832 Km., Brasil 3.400 Km., Chile 861 Km., Paraguay 750 Km., and Peru 900 Km.
Climate:
It varies according to the altitude; from tropical and humid to semi-arid.
Topography:
Rugose mountains with a tableland (Altiplano), hills, flatlands of the Andes, the lowlands and the swamplands of the Amazon.
Extremes of Elevation:
The lowest spot: Paraguay River; the highest spot: Sajama snow-covered mountain (6.542 m. above sea level).
Natural Resources:
Tin, natural gas, petroleum, zinc, tungsten, antimony, silver, iron, lead, gold, wood, hydro-electricity, tourism.
Characteristics:
Bolivia does not have a sea coast. The country shares control of Lake Titicaca –the highest navigable lake in the world (elevation: 3.805 m. above sea level)- with Peru. The Salt Deposit of Uyuni –the largest salt lake in the world- is in the south-western part of the country.
